LARCHES

The larch is a unique deciduous conifer - it sheds its needles every autumn in a stunning golden display. Native to mountainous regions of Europe, Asia, and North America, larches are among the tallest and longest-lived trees, with some exceeding 1,000 years old. They thrive in cold climates and are pioneer species, among the first trees to colonize disturbed land. In the PNW, they are found mostly in Central/Northern Washington and in select pockets near Mt. Hood and Central Oregon.
